Flour is made by grinding grain into a fine powder. In some cases, layers such as the bran and germ are removed.
Prepared flours (or mixes) are a combination of ingredients formulated to prepare a specific type of product. Only the addition of liquid (water and/or egg and/or oil and/or yeast) is required to make the products. The ingredients added depend on the final product.
Wheat flour is essential in most breads. The wheat grain has three parts: the bran, which is the shell that encloses the grain, the germ that is the nutritious part and the seed of the future plant, and the endosperm that is the inner part of the grain, which has starch and protein.
Vegetable oil is an organic compound obtained from seeds or other plant parts, consists of lipids, such as fatty acids of different types. The proportion of these fatty acids and their different features, give the properties to the different existing vegetable oils.
Shortening is known as a vegetable oil solidified after being submitted to a hydrogenation process. It has a neutral flavor and color, its consistency is excellent when firmness is required in results of the recipe being developed.
