EGT to build third facility in Montana
August 16, 2011 - Portland, Oregon - EGT, LLC, a joint venture between Bunge North America, ITOCHU and STX Pan Ocean, announced it is building a high capacity shuttle train loader in Carter, Montana. This facility along with similar facilities under construction in Chester and Kintyre Flats will ensure that EGT can efficiently ship quality wheat from a key growing region to the company's grain export grain terminal in Longview, Washington.
"EGT continues to develop our origination of hard red winter, northern spring and dark northern spring wheat to support our customers' requirements," said Larry Clarke, president and CEO, EGT, LLC. "This state-of-the-art facility, combined with our projects under way in Chester and Kintyre Flats, will enable us to create a seamless supply chain from farm to the end users in Asia and Central America."
All three high-speed shuttle loaders are being built on the BNSF railroad and will be capable of loading a 110-car unit train in under ten hours. The facilities are designed to provide farmers with best-in-class cycle times for fast weighing, grading and dumping. Storage capacity for each location will be approximately 800,000 bushels.
Construction of the Carter facility is expected to be complete by summer of 2012. Once operational, the facility will employ four to six people.
The EGT export facility in Longview is expected to be operational this fall. As the first export terminal to be built in the United States in more than two decades, the EGT facility will have an annual capacity of eight million metric tons. It will help meet the growing demand for grains, oilseeds, meals and DDGs in export markets. Wheat is expected to make up about a quarter of the grain shipped through the EGT facility.
