Bunge plans to expand operations in Nipawin, Saskatchewan
January 10, 2006 - St. Louis, Missouri - Bunge North America, the North American operating arm of Bunge Limited (NYSE: BG) announced it is expanding its oilseed crusher and oil refinery in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. When construction is complete in November 2007, the facility will have significantly increased the crush capacity and more than doubled its current refining capacity.
“This expansion will enable Bunge to better serve growing consumer demand for oils with a good nutritional profile like canola,” said Herb Schafer, vice president of Bunge North America and country manager of Canada.
Bunge’s facility in Nipawin processes canola and high euricic acid rapeseed (HEAR) creating protein meal for animal feed and oil used by food manufacturers and for non-food uses like biodiesel. With this expansion, Bunge will be able to fully refine all of the oil produced at the plant.
“Increasing our footprint in Canada fits our strategy of looking for opportunities to grow our business while increasing our efficiency and improving our ability to serve our customers,” said Larry Clarke, senior vice president and general manager of Bunge North America’s Oilseed Processing operations. “We decided to expand in Nipawin because we have a talented base of employees and strong relationships with local growers and the surrounding community.”
The Nipawin facility is one of 17 Bunge North America's oilseed processing facilities.
